the sexual component of ballet

written by Dr. Dancebelt  on 06.09. at 18:23:09
Almost everything we do is colored by our sex drive, and dance is no exception.  Dance grew from two bases, courting rituals and worship.  Throughout history dances have been designed to heighten passion.  Whether a group dance to the tribal drum, formal waltz, classical ballet, or rave, dance is a precursor to sex.  To deny the sexual part of dance is to deny dance its roots and meaning.

But, dance is an artform, an idealized, formalized interplay, not a sweaty exchange of bodily fluids.  It is a civilized veneer over the primal beast within.

Dancewear is revealing, and male dancers must come to terms with its exhibitionistic characteristics.  Fear of tights keeps many boys from trying ballet, but I suspect others are drawn to it because they are exhibitionists or tights fetishists.  Fine, as long as that primal need is re-directed to learning the art instead of using ballet as an excuse to act out your fantasy life.  This forum needs to keep the civilized veneer.
