the male dancer

It's nice to be able to do the splits, but sometimes bodies don't agree with the goal.>In dance, the goal, for me, is to be personable on stage, or in the classroom, to be able to make people pleased with the dance I can perform. If I have to do fake jazz splits, I have to do those because I can't do complete jazz splits. Does the audience care? Probably 90% don't know the difference, and the 10% who do probably understand the limitations of the human body.>So what's the goal? Im my humble opinion, technical perfection is not possible for many, or most dancers. So as dancers we have to adapt to the image our audience, be it an on stage performance or classmates and teacher in a daily class, sees. How often will that audience stop and say to themselves "Hey! He did a perfect split!"? Will they even know a perfect split?>In my humble opinion, we as dancers need to know our limitations and work within them. Wouldn't your time be better spent in refining your dance rather than working for the perfect split? Just my humble opinion.>balletboy Several versions of grand jete and sissonne require a perfect split. The audience can see the split, as it is prominently displayed at the top of the movement. The combination is either done correctly, with the split, or it should not be done at all. There is no substitute, no second-best, no faking it. -R- Answers to this message:
