Re: height in dance

Most ballet companies seek to hire only average height women and average height men.  You might be hired by such a company, but in it you will never be given a lot of the good roles.  I know a guy about your height who danced for many years for a major ballet company.  He always did the jumping solo roles but was never a lead because of his height.

Some ballet companies (a very few) are more progressive.  The company I dance for hires dancers --- men and women --- of all different heights.  There is a difference of 10" in height between our shortest and tallest lady.  Choreography is arranged carefully so no one looks "out of place".  In a company like this, you could get good opportunites for lead roles, paired with some of the shorter ballerinas.
