Re: Reflexology for male dancers in NYC

A reflexology session lasts about an hour.  The technique is deep thumb and finger pressure on all the reflex points in the feet that correspond to the organs and systems in the body.  The theory is that the pressure on the points increases circulation throughout the body, releases the energy trapped in tense parts of the body, induces deep relaxation, reduces stress, and helps the body's natural healing process.  It sounds like a lot of mumbo jumbo, but I started believing the theory has merit once I studied it.  After a session, my clients report feeling like they just had a full body massage, feeling "light," feeling "deeply relaxed."

Those things are beneficial to anyone, especially those of us who live in NYC, but I think the particular benefits to dancers or anyone who uses their feet significantly are that the thumb and finger pressure breaks up lactic acid crystals in the foot muscles, and there's a lot of foot and ankle joint mobilization and stretching in the technique.  My clients love how their feet feel after a session, often they say "I don't want to walk on them now."
