Because dancewear designers are making dancebelts for real ballet students and professionals, the range of available sizes just does not conform to the range of street sizes for ordinary mortals. A 36" waist is very nearly the largest size that an actual dancer would have, and he would have to have a pretty unusual body type for a dancer in order to get away with it, professionally.
