For ballet and most forms of modern dance, a "snug" fit will do. I, too have a small waist. I use the size that I ordinarily use for regular underwear. I have used dance belts made specifically for dancers, and I've also found that Calvin Klein's "sports belt" is also quite comfortable to wear while dancing. The CK sports belt is very much like a dance belt--it's snug, it has a large waist band, and it protects the family jewels well! It also comes in white, and grey, which may work better under white tights or tinted "see through" fabrics. And the price is cheaper--expect to pay $15-20 for a Capezio Dance Belt, while the CK is around $14. Where to buy them? Set your browser to "dance clothing--men's." Most of the dance clothing stores I've either been to (such as the Capezio store), or visited on the web are oriented to women's clothing. The CK belts can be purchased at Macy's, or any similar dept. store. Danskin offers dance belts at it's stores, too. My preferance is for the Capezio, for the "fine tuning," ie, no seams or other dindings are present. For dance class or some modern dance performances, I've worn the CK belt.
