In my case it was nothing special at all. My gf started ballet long before myself and was familiar with tights normal for both genders long before I started to wear them. This has never been an issue of a feminine style, we both think it just normal ballet clothing. She always tells me how she loves seeing me in tights preferably stripped to waist.
