Hi Matt!I read yours and John's posts about the ribbons, John has good advice.  As for sewing on the ribbons.... can you sew?  If you can..sew the ribbons on the the sides of the shoes as John explained, carefully avoiding the drawstring casing..since if you sew into that you won't be able to tighten or loosen the drawstring.  If you have a sewing machine handy you could use that if you don't sew.  Most female dancers try to avoid having the stitches show on the outside satin of the shoe, but if you're not concerned about this..the machine will do fine and they will be attached well.  Good luck..   Also..  if you bought the pink satin (not canvas) shoes, you can get makeup (a liquid foundation) to dull the finish to a more flesh tone matte color if you desire.  Also you can dye them black with black shoe polish (but the shoes will shrink a little, careful!!).  Sanshas are great shoes and I think you'll like them a lot.  If your toes hurt, try putting some padding in them (such as lambs wool or cotton pads, or other variety of special pointe shoe padding).  Discount Dance supply has a variety of things to help you.  Happy to hear you're en pointe!   TJ
