Hi.  I have a similar story except that I am Gay.  I was always interested in Ballet and dance, but never had an opportunity to get involved until the dance-aerobics craze in the mid-80's.  It seemed that dance aerobics offered a way for males to get involved in dance, but without the baggage that comes with classical ballet.  In the dance aerobics classes I got involved in were extremely challanging and aerobic and it was not common to end these classes drenched from the effort.  What struck me about tights is that they are extremely practical as they allow evaporation of perspiration unlike sweats or other forms of dance clothing when you needed but warmth when you were warming up or not so active.   This remains the justification for tights as exerise clothing.  Soon I was wearing tights for jogging, roller blading and other aerobic outdoor sports activities.

These dance aerobics classes also were very dance oriented and incorporated a ton of dance steps as well as dance stretches and exercises.  My success encouraged me to take ballet, but I was disappointed because the classes very slow and definately not aerobic, so I returned to dance aerobics.  Also Ballet was not so fun as dance aerobics because ballet had a lot of 'attitude' competition and criticism that came with it.  On the other hand dance aerobics seemed to be about working up a sweat and having fun.  So I left ballet and went back to dance aerobics. Unfortunately, the dance aerobics scene has largely passed from the scene, possibly because of all the stress on the joints that often accompanied this sport.

One thing I wanted to mention is that it is my experience that the most objection to dance tights on men come from the WOMEN and not other men.  Women seem to be very uncomfortable at the display of male anatomy which is strange.  I always thought they were afraid of the competition.

So today in the era of the repressed 90's tights are out again.  Even in the newest dance movie, Center Stage, which is about BALLET, the males do not wear tights.

Too Bad.

At any rate, I would be interested in meeting and talking to other guys who are gay and like dance.
