>>Dance belts do vary in many different ways.  In my opinion, the most important part is "comfort."  You can get "binders" -- some dancers make them for themselves.  But don't get carried away.  Dance with the dancebelt that makes you most comfortable.>Are you an MD, Mr. Dance Doc?  I would be curious to know what the medical ramifications of wearing or not wearing a dance belt are.  What do you include in your dance belt lecture?  Any dance belt advice?

>>>>Yes, I'm an MD.  I planned to go into sports-medicine, orthopaedics, and was accepted to a residency program when I decided "operative" solutions weren't always best. I switched into Rheumatology, and ended up doing a clinical-research fellowship.  I don't practice anymore; I used to get complaints that I spent too much time with a patient.  I do research and administration now -- it leaves more time for ballet.

The "dancebelt lecture" can take several hours, and I found that most guys were not interested in the anatomy, just what to do and what not to do. I always advocate "dressing-up," with the scrotum and testicles drawn up, away from the crotch and body, with the penis pointing up.  This, in my opinion, is better given the demands of dance.

However, I also have to be mindful of what technique or style of training you're receiving, particularly with respect to pelvic tucking.  I believe how you wear a dancebelt depends on what technique of dance you use.
