Trying to give a good and honest answer

written by Johny V. at  on 18.08. at 09:21:45 - as answer to: Question for all? by Clevian
I will try to give you a good and honest answer. So far I am 16 and I am big (6 ft and 185 pounds). I have been taking ballet lessons since I was 7 and as long as I can remember had always weared tights. Probably since I have almost 9 years in this field I have never stop to think what other people might say when they know that tights is something that I basically wear on a daily basis.  In fact, I don't recall anyone saying nothing to me or about me because of this matter and this is because people is already used to see me doing things related to ballet.

Now, being 16 is an age that should not be consider too late.  I have met guys in my studio that started either when they were 14 or 15 and so far they are doing nice job and they too had to go thru the acceptance of friends and family when they started this activity .  I am glad you don't care anymore about wearing or not tights and if this doesn't bother you that much, I must say that you are welcome into this world of art and excellence.

I will recomend you to buy opaque and somehow thick fabric type of tights (cotton-lycra or spandex might just do) . As for colors and styles, well I should say that personally I use black, white, suntan, grey and some light colored ones in blue or green. Tights and unitards (sleeveless or not)are also ok to be weared by men in the studios ( I do have a couple of thong leothards and use them as well and don't give a dime for what people might thing about this).  Don't forget the dance belts because they will become an essential part of you dancing attire and ballet slippers (leather soles are fine). Pointed shoes are for female dancing..>

If you want to become a dancer, do it because you want it and don't let others try to change your way of thinking.  This is a very respectable way of living and does not affect your manhood. I am straight and had enjoyed every single minute of my dancing experience. I am looking, very seriously, to become a professional ballet dancer and I do believe that I am going to accomplish my wishes, cause I am very good at what I am doing.

Try to mix dancing with other sport activies that might enhance your chances to become a good dancer. I had developed very strong muscles in chest, back, arms and legs due to weight-lifting and this had helped me out very much since in dancing you will have to lift your dancing partner up very often. Swimming is something good too ( at least works for me). I also practice some football, which I really like,  but unfortunately I don't have that much time.

I feel that dancing had opened  me a lot of doors, besides had helped me to meet the most beautiful girls (with the most perfect bodies, should I add)and I guess I had became a playboy (and in fact, more probably I will marry a female dancer within a couple of years),  thanks to this precious way of classical art. It had given me a lot of opportunities and enough reasons to respect myself and be respected by others. None of my friends (specially the guys at school and GIRL FRIENDS TOO) had ever made me feel like a weirdo. They respect me for what I do and like and make no jokes about it.

Just remember, to become a good dancer, you have to practice and rehearse, very often (I practice daily, even on Saturdays). My parents had installed at home barres and a mirror for me to practice, so you could say that I spent most of the time wearing tights but that is part of this business.

I do wish you the best in your new choice...

Hello everyone out there! I have lately been interested in dance. I have allways wanted to do it but was allways to scared of what people might of thought of the boy in the tights. But now I've have got to the point I really don't care.>I have allways loved dancing. I was wondering if being 16 years of age is to old to start dancing? I feel like being my age I would be a little behind.I was also wondering what dance should I take? I was thinking about tap,Modern, and ballet. How many classes should I take a week? I would like to take as many as I could to get good at it at a short amount of time. Tell me what should I do.>                    Thanks guys!>                     Clevian
