>I hope your post is real!  I did wear pantyhose once and was actually told not to take part in the class!  What had happened was I was unsure of my schedule and in getting there in barely enough time, I showed up in my place at the barre with my leotard and, gulp, pantyhose.  She (the teacher) gave me an absolute "NO" and would have sent me totally out of the class but for another girl who let me wear a pair of her own tights.  I was very  embarrassed for holding up the class but did feel better about it later on.  The teacher I had then was a real traditionalist and did her best to instill in me and the others a real respect for the tradition of ballet.  Again, I hope your question was a real one.  If in doubt about wearing hose, DON'T!

I guess it largely depends on the school and if they have rigid dress codes.  Actually my ballet instructor encouraged the guys to wear pantyhose (only opaques) because they breathe and are so much cooler than dance tights.  Also, pantyhose is a whole heck of a lot cheaper than wearing BalTogs or Marissa tights all the time.  But as you may know, even opaque pantyhose tends to be semi-sheer when stretched so I would recommend you wear a women's Queen or Tall in pantyhose.  That way your teacher won't get aneyefull every time you reach and stretch.  You'll find the new microfibre pantyhoses to be so soft and silky and the most flexible for ballet, better than your average "street" pantyhoses. Try them and let me know what you think.
