The idea was to strengthen the feet, ankles, etc., and perfect centering. I had pointe shoes custom-made. The girls didn't say anything; maybe they were being polite. After about three months, I said to myself "Why?" Guys dance on pointe only in some character roles and in travesty, like the Trocks. I wanted to express my maleness and the strength of the male ballet danseur...that wasn't what pointe was about. I needed to jump!
