....follow your dream !
written by michael on 04.05. at 14:02:12 A few months ago I finally summoned up the courage to enrol in an adult begineers ballet class at a local dance school. As a child and teenage ,I'd secretly wanted to learn ballet but was afraid of what my family and friends would think.I grew up in a very macho environment where boys who learnt ballet were seen as effeminate. So I spent my school years playing rugby and being involved in competitive sports, whilst enveying the girls at my school who were involved in ballet lessons.A close female friend gave me the courage to finally realise my ballet dreams when she told me about the begineers ballet class she attended 2 nights a week.Although I'm the only male in the class at present the women are really supportive and encouraging and seem to welcome any man who wants to learn ballet. The atmosphere is one of positive support so different to when I played competitive sport.I intially attended ballet class wearing shorts and a tee shirt..all the girls in the class however were wearing leotards and ballet tights.Last week with my friends assistance I finally took class wearing black ballet tights.None of the women dancers made any silly comments and a few thanked me for showing them the respect of dressing in proper ballet class attire. To any males out there who have a desire to learn ballet ..please do it!
