I'm a professional dancer and have experienced what you mentioned, mostly with teenage girls when I was a teenager. As an adult, for the most part, the women interact with me like human beings. However, last summer was different. I went to the same professional-level class just about every day ALL SUMMER LONG. And NONE of the regular women in the class would ever even say "hi" to me. It was really pathetic. All I can say is there must have been some sense of insecurity and competition. I know it's ridiculous because men and women don't compete for the same jobs. But there it was anyway. No one would talk to me. I worked hard anyway and eventually the summer ended and I got to go back to my own company, where we all work together. Keep dancing, keep working hard, and don't worry about people like you describe. Ballet is an ART, not a social clique. Answers to this message: |
