We think it's our "feminie side" because our culture has defined a hyper-masculinity that is difficult and unhealthy to live up to. But it's not --- and the further you go in ballet, the more you'll realize that the men and women still act like men and women in class and on stage. I tend to think of it as connecting to the beautiful, sensual side of masculinity. It is truly masculine; we just don't think of it as masculine because we've forgotten that men can be beatuiful. Grasping for words, we call it our "feminie" side. I understand how easy it is to identify with the ladies. All the things they do seem so natural for me to do too --- even if I don't do them much myself. I remember one of the other dancers was talking about how when she paints her toenails, it brightens her day. I've tried it too, it really works. Every time you look down at your toes, you see them looking back at you --- and that can help me feel better on a down day. Answers to this message:
