I hate ballet, but I love pointe

written by David  on 26.09. at 22:00:36
It's true, sort of, I dislike ballet classes. I can't dance. I can't rememberthe combinations. They go in one eye and out the other. I foul them up every-time (yet as I say this I am smiling-in fond remembrance of doing the same inother ballet classes. Yet, once again, I restarted ballet after a 6 year hiatus.  Sorry, Balletboy, I have had some great conversations with you under falsepretensions-I wasn't taking ballet at the time.   Still, I restarted the other night, taking an intermediate class, with twoother adults and a pre-professional student, and I liked it up to point.  Thanks to an earlier teacher, Miss Ruth, at Ruth MItchell Ballet, I found iteasier to practice, just reminding myself it's exercise. Thanks to Zen meditation, I was able to relax and have fun and laugh at my mistakes.  So why do I do it. Well, like alot of you, I have a lycra fetish, and a largecollection of tights, unitards, leotards, etc. and I love wearing them all.I love the shape ballet gives to dancers bodies, both male and female. Thin, athletic and strong. I like/love/and dislike the movements involved. SometimesI feel like a dancer, sometimes like an athlete, and sometimes a klutz. But mostof all, I LOVE pointe.  I have only done it once. My pointe shoes are at home, made in Japan, byChacott, by a shoemaker who probably thought the shoes were for Frankenstein. Istood up on them once, at the barre, and never again. I learned to have anenormous and healthy respect for anyone that can put pointe shoes on, even ifthey only wear them at the barre.  I went to the class, and the two women, both adult students, non-professional,wore pointe shoes. At the barre and out in the center. And I was envious. And Iadmired them.  I am not getting younger. So, I was curious if there was a short-cut, butapparently not. I want to learn pointe. I want to be able to do pointe. Not justat the barre or center. I want to dance, not necessarily ballet, but down at thelocal fetish club, to rock/pop/soul/goth/industrial/etc.  I am not asking a question-this was just something I wanted to get off my chest. Thanks for reading this.
