....follow your dream !
written by KY at on 08.08. at 08:06:29 I am a male-to-female transsexual who is interested in begeinning ballet. I have been living as a female for many years now, in preparation for my sex reassignment surgery, though I was born male. I have breasts, and my genitals are very small, so that there is no "bulge". I "pass" reasonably well, but some people will still realize I was born male, although they are polite about this. I am 35 years old and 6 feet tall, and weigh 300 pounds. I have a large build, but am not muscular. I know this is heavy, but I am losing weight now to get into better shape. I am a size 24W (American) now. Questions: 1) Will I be able to do partnering and pas de deux, once I reach my target weight, which will be from 125 to 150 pounds? 2) What about pointe shoes and regular ballet shoes? I wear a size 12 wide women's street shoe size, and wore a size 11 or 12 when I used to be a male. Will women's pointe and ballet shoes be hard to find in my size? 3) Will people complain if they think I am a male, but dancing and appearing as a female? Especially if I have to enroll in children's classes since I am a beginner and use the women's changing rooms? See, I pass reasonably well in street clothes, but if my hair is in a ballet bun and I am wearing leotard and tights, I will get "read" more easily (i.e., recongnized as male), since I am so tall and hava a large build with a somewhat masculine voice. I have breasts, but have no hips or butt. Thanks for any help! Answers to this message:
