I go to a performing arts high school for dance and am a member of a professional company and NEVER has that been permitted. I don't know where you guys are taking but they must have a very lax dress code. I have seen flesh colored shoes for performance purposes but for everyday class wear? i would rather just stick to what is normal and expected. Price shouldn't make that much of a difference, especially when its only several dollars. dance isnt cheap, and you shouldnt compromise an expected norm in order to save a few bucks.
