the male dancer

When I was 11 years old I was drawn to the world of ballet but like Billy, my father didn't understand or approve. Unlike the movie, my dad never changed his mind, and I didn't start my ballet training till just this year when I moved out of my family's house. I cried so much when Billy's dad recognized his son's calling and his talent. Once the father had done this, he was willing to sacrifice his deepest held beliefs to help Billy realize his dream. By the end of the story, Billy's admission to the Royal Ballet School was more important to the father than the settling of a bitter strike in the coal mines where he worked. I hope some day my dad will sit in the audience, watch me dance in a ballet, and be proud of me. Ballet Buddy Answers to this message: |
