Flexibility is a matter every dancer have and there are some reasons i will explain you. First, flexibility excersices don't work the same for all. Some will improve yours faster than others. Before every stretching excercise is necessary to warm your body and remember warming is not stretching. I recommend you stretch few muscles at time because you can control the streght you give them and reduce the risk of injury. Is better to last a while doing this that get injured and never do it. Splits works well but it involves plenty of excersices before you can do them. Is a great error make splits part of your strectching because them are only done when your muscles are prepared to do them, as I said before you stretch a great group of muscles while doing splits.

A basic excersice is one done at the barre. Put one foot in the lower barre in a way that the leg is right, aside your body and do a plie then a releve with your supporting leg, repeat it about ten times. Then bend your waist (not your back!) and try to reach your leg with your chest, hold the position a few seconds and slowly unbend your body. Then bend and reach your leg with your shoulder.

That's what I basically do to stretch before a class. Hope it give you results and forgive me if you not understand well, my english is not as good as i want. Take care of yourself and just feel comfortable with the excersices and keep in your limits do not over force. Luck!
