the male dancer

I have known hundreds of dancers, male and female, over many years. I have watched many dancers, male and female, over many years. I believe I am right when I can say I've never seen a proper, perfect turnout, 180 degrees from the hip, without stress on the knees. Even in pictures of Nijinsky, you can see that his near perfect turnout involved stress on the knees. Also, from what I've learned from dance-anatomy lessons is that the hip joint just cannot turn out a complete 90 degrees on each side. Maybe 80 degress is possible, but the basic anatomical structures, like the combination of bone, tendon and muscle, do not leave enough room for the hip to turnout a complete 90 degrees. Maybe on a skeletom when you remove the muscles and tendons, the hip joint will turnout 90 degrees, but in the living human, to get those muscles and tendons so thin that the bones turnout, you wouldn't have the necessary muscle and tendon strength to turnout the hip 90 degrees. I'm worried that our SFdancer might be damaging his knees. I just don't understand this! balletboy Answers to this message:
